Happiness
I'm sure most if not all of you have heard of the happiness function in the Pokemon games. Happiness has the following effects:
- It can allow certain Pokemon to evolve.
- It can either strengthen or weaken the power of the two attacks: Frustration and Return.
Frustration is a move which is strengthened if you Pokemon dislikes you. Return is strengthend if your Pokemon likes you.
As for ways to make your Pokemon more friendly towards you...

- Catch the Pokemon you want to make happy in a Luxury Ball.
- Make the Pokemon hold the item "Soothe Bell".
- In D/P, go to Veilstone City. There should be a house there where your Pokemon can get massaged. After you've beaten the game, once you have 10 ribbons on one Pokemon, you can go into the posh building at the Resort Area to get a massage.
- Simply keep the Pokemon in your party.
To make a Pokemon less friendly towards you:
- Feed them bitter food.
- Make them faint in battle.
